چکیده

There have been various obstacles to investigating the immediate type of spontaneous hypersensitivity in man. These have included the lack of in vitro methods of measuring allergic antibody and a limitation on the types of investigations that can be done in man without risk. Models of hypersensitivity using immunized animals have not involved antibody of the type occurring in spontaneous allergy in man. The passive transfer of immediate cutaneous reactivity [Prausnitz-Kustner reaction ( 1 ) ] to other human subjects has remained the classical method of investigation of allergic antibody. This technique is limited to the study of cutaneous wheal and erythema reactions and carries with it the risk of transmission of certain viral diseases. By this method, allergic antibody has been characterized as a nonprecipitating, heat labile, skin-sensitizing antibody that persists at the injected site for long periods of time (2). The nature of the serum fraction containing allergic antibody, believed to be a y1A type of immunoglobulin by several investigators (3), has been the subject of controversy in regard to either electrophoretic migration or sedimentation characteristics as demonstrated by ultracentrifugal analysis. The availability of an animal model with the immediate type of spontaneous hypersensitivity as found in dogs with spontaneous pollen hyper-

Consequences of Traffic Accidents Transferred by Helicopter and Ground Ambulance: Propensity Score Matching

Introduction: The main task of the emergency medical system is to provide primary care and transfer the injured to a medical center.  Studies have been conducted to investigate the outcome of helicopter and ground ambulance casualties, but they show different results.  These different results may be due to the type of study, statistical methods, differences in pre-hospital emergency systems, an...

Passive transfer of immediate hypersensitivity and airway hyperresponsiveness by allergen-specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E and IgG1 in mice.

In a proportion of atopic asthmatics, exposure to a relevant antigen is followed by chronic inflammation in the airways leading to altered airway responsiveness (AR). However, the mechanisms underlying the development of airway hyperresponsiveness still remain unclear. To elucidate the relationship between IgE-mediated reactions and airway hyperresponsiveness, a murine model of passive sensitiz...

THE P REPARATION AND EVALUATION OF REFERENCE LEISHMANIN FROM LEISHMANIA MAJOR FOR USE IN MAN FOR DIAGNOS TIC AND EXPERIMENTAL PURPOSES

Cell-mediated immunity (CMI) plays an important role in resistance against leishmaniasis. Delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) reaction measured by skin testing is a practical method of evaluation of CMI and is used as an aid to diagnosis and for epidemiological assessment of exposure to leishmanial infection. Skin testing in leishmaniasis, generally known as Montenegro or leishmanin test, r...

Oral tolerance for delayed type hypersensitivity contribution of local and peripheral mechanisms

Oral tolerance is a physiological immune mechanism, which controls the outcome of deleterious hypersensitivity reactions to environmental antigens absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract, and maintains homeostasis. Using a mouse model of oral tolerance of delayed type hypersensitivity to contact allergens, i.e. haptens, we have examined the mechanisms involved in the induction of oral toler...

Delayed-type hypersensitivity and immunity against aerogenic tuberculosis in guinea pigs.

In experiments described herein, it was observed that guinea pigs with delayed-type hypersensitivity to tuberculoproteins under various experimental conditions, with or without passive transfer of serum from immune donors, manifested no acquired immunity against aerogenically induced tuberculosis. These results are discussed in relation to the previous observations of other investigators and to...
